“la couleur de l’eau”

“La Couleur de L’eau” explores the nature of DNA and self-expression. This collection is very personal, as I emulate how my DNA has shaped the person I am today not only physically but mentally through fashion.

This idea started when my mother introduced me to the book, “The Color of Water” by James Mcbride. The book describes the author’s challenges growing up in the 1960s and 70s as a mixed-race child of a White Jewish mother. The title of the book signifies his mother’s belief that God is “the color of water”- neither black nor white. Having grown up mixed-race and adopted, I completely resonated with the author. This later sparked my interest in taking a DNA test to find out my family ancestry and help answer the question,

“Who am I?”

Throughout the slides you will see my creative process exploring the theme of self-idenity - combined with my other passion of horseback riding that has helped shaped me into the young designer that I am today.
